Application Information

The MPH Program is a 21-month residential program, that starts in the Fall. Applications to the MPH Program are submitted through CSU Apply,  LINK HERE.  To complete the application, you will, at minimum need to: request official transcripts from the institutions from which you have eraned a bachelor's and graduate degree (if applicable). INFORMATION SESSION

APPLICATION DEADLINES FOR FALL 2024 ADMISSION:

  • December 15, 2023 – Deadline for priority consideration and to be competitive for graduate funding opportunities for Fall 2024 admission. Completed applications received by December 15 will receive full consideration for admissions. Completed applications must include all required official transcripts and letters of recommendation.
  • March 1, 2024 – Final deadline for Fall 2024. Applications received after December 15 and by March 1 will continue to be accepted until all spots are filled.

MINIMUM CSU ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

The minimum requirements for admission to master’s and post baccalaureate studies at a California State University campus are in accordance with University regulations, as well as Title 5, chapter 1, Subchapter 3 of the California Code of Regulations.  Specifically a student shall, at the time of enrollment:

  • Have completed a four-year college course of study and hold an acceptable baccalaureate degree from an institution accredited by a regional accrediting association, or equivalent preparation as determined by appropriate campus  authorities;
  • Be in good academic standing at the last college or university attended;
  • Have attained a grade point average of at least 2.5 in an acceptable earned baccalaureate degree or attained a grade point average of at least 2.5 in the last 60 semesters units (90 quarter units) attempted; (Department graduate programs may require a higher GPA.)
  • Satisfactorily meet the professional, personal, scholastic, and other standards for graduate study, including qualifying examinations, as appropriate campus authorities may prescribe.
  • For international students, all applicants, regardless of citizenship, whose native language is other than English are required to submit proof of English proficiency before an admissions decision can be made.

ADDITIONAL MPH PROGRAM ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

All official documents listed below must be received by the Office of Admissions by the application deadline. Any delay in receipt of the online application, official transcripts, letters of recommendation may jeopardize an applicant's review status.

  • Official transcript from the college or university from which you earned your bachelor's and graduate degree (if applicable) sent directly to the CSUF Office of Admissions.
  • Two letters of recommendation. At least one letter should come from a professor or other academic professional who can attest to your academic accomplishments and potential.
  • A statement of purpose. In 300-500 words, describe your path to public health and how our MPH program relates to your professional goals.
  • A current resume or curriculum vitae (CV). Please include publications and conference presentations (if any).
  • Completion of 3 units of statistics, research methods, or other quantitative science course (appropriate courses include: statistics, epidemiology, research methods, calculus, etc.) with a grade B or better.
  • Appropriate educational background for the public health program.
  • A minimum cumulative GPA of 2.7. Please note that space is limited.  Most accepted students had above a 3.4 GPA and accepted applicants with lower GPAs demonstrate their potential to achieve excellence in an academis setting in other ways.
  • Paid or volunteer experience in public health, health education or related health area.
  • Interview, upon request of the department.
  • Note: the Graduate Record Examination (GRE) is not required for the Fall 2024 admission cycle.

We encourage prospective students that can demonstrate that they have the capacity to achieve excellence in an academic and professional setting to apply.

Recommendation to Prospective Applicants

While preparing graduate school application materials consider working with your professor(s) from the department where you earned your degree.  Many professors consider it part of their duties and an honor to help their students get into graduate school.  It is common if not conventional for students to work with their professors and with their university programs that support applicants.  For example, CSUF has support through the Career Center, and a specialized program called  Project upGRADS.  Both resources help students prepare their application materials.

International Students

Our program encourages international students to join our diverse faculty and student body.  Please know that MPH programs such as ours are not currently considered a STEM program by federal immigration authorities.
