Why choose the MPH program at CSUF?

Career development

After graduating from our program, students move into a wide array of career pathways. Our graduates have gone on to work in Orange County Health Care Agency, Los Angeles Department of Public Health, Long Beach Department of Public Health, U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Some students have continued into doctoral programs.

Supportive environment

With our program’s smaller cohort size, our MPH students benefit from the social support of a cohort model. Smaller class sizes facilitate more in-depth interaction and relationships among students inside and outside of class. In addition, students have an opportunity for individualized mentoring by faculty members, including advisement on student-led projects, involvement with faculty research projects, and professional advising and networking.

Broad faculty experience

Our faculty share a deep commitment to public health and to educating the next generation of public health professionals. They are engaged in on-going research and community collaborations at the forefront of public health discovery. Areas of expertise include cancer, obesity, nutrition, substance use, older adults, maternal and child health, air and water quality, climate change policy, access to care, palliative care, and risk communication. Faculty projects have been funded by US National Institutes of Health, US Food and Drug Administration, National Science Foundation, and the California Tobacco Related Disease Research Program.

Accredited

The MPH program has been continuously accredited by the Council on Education for Public Health (CEPH) since 2003 when it became the first accredited MPH program in Orange County. Since that time, our program has continued to evolve to ensure that students are provided with state-of-the-art training to be effective public health practitioners.

Affordability

The MPH program is the most affordable accredited MPH program in the area. In 2024-2025, standard 9-month full-time student tuition is projected to be $8,994. Compared to other MPH programs, this cost is one third of other public university programs and less than one quarter of other private university programs.
