Applied Scholarship & Research




Professional Development: CARYS provides the highest quality learning opportunities for nonschool-based sport and physical activity leaders.

· Increase the number of certificated volunteer youth sport coaches.

· Assist volunteer coaches and physical activity leaders in further enriching their skills, knowledge, and professional competencies necessary to provide developmentally appropriate and fulfilling experiences for young sport and physical activity participants.

· Participate and collaborate with community recreation and physical activity program leaders to provide education and training opportunities that are informed by the latest research in the sport and health sciences.

Community Connections: CARYS forms relationships with community youth sport and recreation agencies to provide training and technical assistance.

· Work collaboratively with community youth sport and recreation agencies in identifying community and agency needs and developing programs to address those needs.

· Provide training and technical assistance to community youth sport and recreation agencies in the development and implementation of promising practices.

· Assist in the development and use of outcomes to measure the effectiveness of youth sport and recreation programs in meeting program goals.

· Serve as a regional information center for community based organizations and policy leaders involved with the promotion of responsible youth sport and recreation practices.

Applied Scholarship & Research: CARYS supports applied scholarship, collaborative research, and dissemination of knowledge regarding the status, needs, and strengths of community youth sport and recreation programs.

· Conduct collaborative research that informs, supports, and strengthens community youth sport and recreation programs.

· Partner with complementary CSUF departments and centers and other relevant external educational institutions to address critical community issues related to the promotion of healthy children and youths.
