Cathy Carreiro, PT, ATC Cathy was born and raised in Redondo Beach, California. She earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Health Science and completed the Athletic Training Certificate program at California State University, Long Beach in 1982. She gained a broad range of experience working with intercollegiate athletes including football, basketball, volleyball, field hockey, water polo, swimming, and track. She became a certified member of the National Athletic Trainer’s Association in 1982. In 1985 she graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Physical Therapy from University of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania where she was elected President of the Student Physical Therapy Association and recipient of the Western Pennsylvania Physical Therapy Association R. Lewis Brown Award for Student Achievement. Cathy joined the staff of the Athletic Conditioning & Injury Center, Irvine in 1985. In addition to her clinic duties, she served as the Athletic Trainer for Irvine High School. During her employment at ACIC she gained valuable experience working with Olympic and professional athletes. Cathy joined the Student Health & Counseling Center staff at California State University, Fullerton in 1989. In 1991 she participated in the U.S. Olympic Committee Volunteer Medical Program in Colorado Springs. In 1994 she completed the year-long Pacific Manual Therapy Program. She also completed her Master of Science degree in Kinesiology at California State University, Fullerton in 1996. In her current position at California State University, Fullerton, Cathy is in charge of Physical Therapy & Sports Rehabilitation Services and is an approved Clinical Instructor in the Athletic Training Education Program. At the 2003 NATA Annual Meeting & Clinical Symposia, Cathy was the instructor for Advanced Track 3: “Joint Mobilization of the Extremities: Emphasis on the Shoulder, Knee & Ankle”. She remains active in continuing education courses that further her interest in sports medicine & orthopedic physical therapy. Cathy currently resides in Mission Viejo, California with husband Tim and daughters Sarah & Julie.
