Dear Prospective AT Student: Welcome and thank you for your interest in the Athletic Training Education Program (ATEP) at California State University, Fullerton. Through our accredited ATEP, we offer a Bachelor of Science degree in Athletic Training, which allows graduates to take board exam(s) to become a Certified Athletic Trainer (AT). Acceptance to the ATEP is based on a competitive admissions process. ALL application materials must be submitted to the Program Director by February 1 of each year. Successful candidates begin their clinical rotations in August of the application year. “Athletic Trainers are healthcare professionals who collaborate with physicians to optimize activity and participation of patients and clients. Athletic training encompasses the prevention, diagnosis and intervention of emergency, acute and chronic medical conditions involving impairment, functional limitations and disabilities. Athletic Training is recognized by the American Medical Association (AMA) as a healthcare profession.” (CAATE, 2012) To learn more about AT education, visit the webpage of our professional organization – the National Athletic Trainers’ Association (www.nata.org), or our accrediting agency – the Commission on the Accreditation of Athletic Training Education (www.caate.net), as well as explore our webpage. Quality remains our top priority, as evidenced by our students’ (ATS) success on the national board (BOC) exam. Our first-time BOC pass rate for the previous three years (2009-2012) is 80.7% (25 of 31), while our overall pass-rate is 100% (31 of 31). Since our initial accreditation, over 95% of those completing the ATEP became AT. Our alum, currently work in various settings, including professional sports teams, colleges/universities, high schools, military bases, clinics/hospitals, medical offices, and industrial settings. Prospective students should completely explore our homepage, including the Degree Info and the Application Procedures pages (links on left). You can also download an Application and Recommendation Forms (links on left).
