Collaboration within the College of Health and Human DevelopmentWithin the past few years the University has sought to promote larger administrative units, with a resulting division affiliating the departments of Child and Adolescence Studies, Counseling, Human Services, and Nursing. We anticipate retaining the dimensions which have brought us to this point, while broadening our connections with these related fields. This affiliation formalizes some of the collaborative efforts within these departments. Collaboration with Community CollegesThe Department has sought to interface with surrounding colleges. A student transferring from a community college must first have transcripts evaluated by the Office of Admissions and Records in order to determine whether or not university requirements have been satisfied. Then Human Services Academic Advisor may approve of the transfer of up to twelve units of related course work toward the total of the required fifty-four units specifically for the Human Services major, following University articulation agreements. (Eighteen units may be transferred if the student has a drug and alcohol or eating disorder certificate granted by a community college with an appropriate articulation agreement with CSUF. Again, this must be approved by a HUSR academic advisor.) Collaboration with local Human Service AgenciesThe Department is committed to collaborating with local human services agencies in a variety of ways. Specifically, the Department works closely with local agencies to provide fieldwork opportunities for Human Services majors; full-time faculty consult with local agencies, are integral parts of Boards of Directors and Advisory Committees; and provide volunteer service. In addition, many of the Department's part-time faculty have full-time jobs in local human service agencies. Through the University's commitment to service learning, many of the classes work with local agencies in the areas of grant writing, program evaluation and research, and voter registration.
